4 Things That Could Be Keeping You Fat + The Best Solution, Ever!

I don’t know if you realize this, but recently, we launched an online community that combines the best in fitness practices and food preparation. Our goal is to make sure that you can lose weight or maintain your current healthy weight inside of a vibrant, supportive community of people who only have your best interests at heart.

…but before you dive into that, I want to let you in on a little secret as to why you’re probably not yet getting the results you want from your weight loss or weight maintenance efforts.

Now, before I get into specifics, let me make something really clear: this article is not meant to fat shame anyone who is proud of their body.

Please don’t take it that way.

Instead, this article is directed towards anyone who wants to lose weight, be in the best shape possible, and get rid of those excess pounds that have been hanging on for way too long.

That written, let’s get into today’s content about the 4 things I see the most that are probably keeping you heavier than you want to be.

Do You Know The Hidden Things That Are Holding You Back From Your Fitness Goals?

Thing #1: Your Sugar Intake

Not that long ago, I was in the grocery store, looking for roast beef to use for some amazing sandwiches. I went to the deli counter and asked for meat that was sugar-free.

Even writing that feels strange because who would think that there’s sugar in our meat? I know I certainly wouldn’t….but it is.

And so I know to always look for for meat without it.

The problem was that I’d stopped at a different grocery store, so I didn’t know for certain if I would be able to find it. Sure enough, the woman at the deli counter was stumped.

It took us four tries before we found a meat that was sugar-free.

The point I am trying to make here is we are all eating way too much sugar, and we don’t even know it, most times.

  • There’s sugar in almost all the spaghetti sauces you see in those glass jars in your local grocery store.
  • There’s added sugar in meat.
  • There’s sugar in almost all condiments.
  • There’s way too much sugar in fruit juices – and I don’t mean fresh fruit juice. I’m talking about the processed juices most of us drink…

…and this list goes on and on.

Other than the occasional piece of fresh fruit, I have cut all the excess sugar out of my diet, and I can’t tell you how much of a difference it’s made!

It’s way easier to lose weight and keep it off when you’re aware of your sugar intake and know how to limit it.

Thing #2: Your Water Intake

In the last article, I shared how much of a difference drinking water can make in your health, but one thing I didn’t go into great detail about was how drinking water can help you lose weight.

Personally, I drink water all day long. It helps to keep my joints flexible and comfortable, and I just feel better when I drink lots of water.  When I drink it before dinner, it even helps me to not overeat. Water is amazing!

Another big thing is that water helps your organs do everything they were designed to do a lot more effectively and efficiently. For example, your liver is meant to process and metabolize fat and sugar.

When you don’t drink enough water, you force your kidneys to work overly hard, and they end up sending some of their work over to your liver. Meanwhile, your liver is supposed to be metabolizing fat and sugar.

When the liver cannot fully do it’s job, your fat deposits will actually start increasing over time.

So drink more water. Help your organs do what they were meant to do and simultaneously help yourself stay fit and healthy the way nature intended.

Thing #3: Your Diet

You might not be aware of this, but I was 18 years old before I ever ate a vegetable. Looking back, I am shocked that I survived to 18 years old on the diet I used to eat…but I did, somehow.

I’m so grateful for my wife, Katie, because she’s a stickler about not eating processed foods. Instead, we eat real, whole food and fuel our bodies with everything needed to stay vibrantly healthy.

If your entire meal comes frozen in a bag and if you need a dictionary to understand the ingredients, it’s highly likely that you’re eating processed food and flooding your body with all sorts of non-nutritional chemicals, food colorings, and bad sugars it doesn’t want.

If you simply eat real, whole food instead, you can do all sorts of good things for your body, like…

  • lessen the toxic burden on your liver…
  • have more energy to get all the way through your day, and…
  • provide yourself with all the vitamins, minerals, and other types of nutrition that your body is craving every day.

And this leads me to…

Thing #4: Your Level Of Exercise

I wonder…are you moving your body enough?

If there’s one phrase I’ve heard repeated in the fitness industry over and over again, it’s this: You can’t out train a bad diet.

The flip side of this is…with a solid, healthy diet, you can pretty much do anything you want to do.

  • You can lose weight without trying too hard.
  • You can sculpt your body and make it look however you want, and…
  • …you can exercise the way you want to and build up to your ultimate exercising goals over time.

The thing is…most people aren’t eating healthily, and so they definitely don’t have the energy they need to stay active.

If you’ve focused on the previous, three things that I shared above, it’s now time for you to get your body moving. The easiest way to do that is to simply go take a walk.

Depending on your level of fitness, I’d suggest starting with a 10-15 minute walk or bike ride. If you’re in pretty good shape, walking or riding for 30 minutes should be pretty easy for you.  You want to get to a place where you’re doing at least a couple of miles per day if you’re walking and at least 5 miles if you’re on a bike.

From there, you’ll want to add in strength training and other types of cardio so that your workouts are well-rounded and effective.
